So Close - Little Red Feather Race Recap (02.10.20)
Posted by Billy Koch on February 10, 2020
Although the 2020 winning streak was snapped over the weekend, LRF just missed victory on Sunday afternoon with a race that was oh so very close.
On Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita, THE HUNTED (above) found graded stakes company a little too much when checking in eighth in the GIII $100,000 Thunder Road Stakes for trainer Richie Baltas.
The 5yo son of Unusual Heat was sent off as a 12-1 longshot and ridden for the first time by Geovanni Franco in the one mile turf stake. The Hunted broke a bit slowly, trailed the field for the first three-quarters of a mile, before putting in a mild rally along the inside down the lane but was no factor (video below).
Look for The Hunted to get one start in March before defending his title in the $100,000 Crystal Water Stakes for CA Breds on Saturday, April 25.
Euro Import Lady Timmy Ho (IRE) - above - ran a very good third in her debut during the Del Mar fall meet for LRF. Her second start was a head scratcher where the filly simply didn't fire. However, on Sunday at Santa Anita, the 3yo Kodiac (GB) filly just missed breaking her maiden by the slimmest of margins.
Sent off as the 7/2 second choice in the wagering and ridden by Joel Rosario, Lady Timmy Ho sat a good stalking trip, swung wide for the stretch run, and made a furious rally to miss by a nose! (race replay).
Lady Timmy Ho has now finished in the money in three of her four career starts and should be ultra tough when she returns in March in a similar spot.
LRF still sits at the top of the Santa Anita owner standings with six victories through February 9.
