A Win Win Weekend - Little Red Feather Race Recap (02.03.20)
Posted by Billy Koch on February 3, 2020
Little Red Feather Racing started off 2020 right where they left off in 2019... HOT! That streak continued over the weekend at Santa Anita where two 4yo LRF fillies stole the show.
On Friday afternoon at Santa Anita, VELVET QUEEN (above) proved much the best in a first condition allowance race at Santa Anita for trainer Richie Baltas.
Leading rider Joel Rosario did the honors aboard the daughter of Animal Kingdom, who was sent off as the 4/5 favorite in the mile and a sixteenth main track event. The speedy Velvet Queen rated kindly for Rosario before powering home late for the decisive victory (race replay).
The win was the third in four starts for Velvet Queen, owned in a partnership with BG Stables, and pushed her career earnings north of $140,000.
On Super Bowl Sunday, OPUS WON (above) turned in another sensational effort to capture a second condition allowance race for Baltas.
Sent off as the 6/5 favorite and ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Opus Won sat just off the pace and, like her stablemate on Friday, took command in the stretch and got the job done in stylish fashion (race replay).
A 4yo CA Bred daughter of Eddington, Opus Won has now won (pun intended) four of her last six races to go along with two seconds. Undefeated in two starts in 2020, Opus Won has now earned $213,570 in her career.
The waters will get deeper for Opus Won. She is scheduled to make her graded stakes debut on Saturday, March 28 in the GIII $100,000 Santa Ana Stakes at Santa Anita.
With the two for two weekend, LRF stands at five wins and two seconds in 13 2020 starts with purse earnings of over $234,000.
