Investing in a horse racing syndicate makes the barrier of entry into the world of horse racing far less daunting. American Pharoah Will Become Horse Racing's 12th Triple Crown Winner

Posted by Billy Koch on Jun 2, 2015 11:33:00 AM

37 years.

That’s a long long time.

I was 8 years old when Affirmed beat Alydar for the third consecutive time to become the 11th Triple Crown winner in history. Since then, 13 horses have stared down Big Sandy and the mile and a half Belmont Stakes with a chance at becoming number 12. All 13 have failed. I’ve watched every single one of them and, to be honest, I’ve rooted against most of them. For a variety of reasons, the others didn’t feel right to me.  None of the others had the power of Secretariat or the brilliance of Seattle Slew or the class of Citation.

This Saturday, American Pharoah takes his turn at horse racing immortality. He comes into the race of smashing, convincing victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Although he will be an overwhelming favorite to win on Saturday in New York and become the 12th Triple Crown winner in history, most pundits have enough history on their side to believe Pharoah will lose in the same manner as California Chrome, Big Brown, Spectacular Bid and the others who have tried and failed.

Listed below are the top three reasons American Pharoah will win the Belmont Stakes on Saturday and become number 12.

Next week - May 26-28 - we're (Little Red Feather Racing) headed to my favorite place on earth, Del Mar, CA, to the first ever Barrett's two-year-old in training sale at Del Mar. On the sales grounds are roughly 150 two-year-old racehorses that will go through the sales process - a breeze on Tuesday, physical inspections on Wednesday, and the live auction on Thursday. As a manager of horse racing partnerships, these sales are one of the most important aspects of our job. Our clients expect us to find the best horses at the best prices. Period.

What does it mean to Own a Racehorse?

Posted by Billy Koch on May 14, 2015 3:26:00 PM

Raw unadulterated emotion.

I often think about the feeling I get when I watch one of our horses race. It’s so over-the-top emotional, such an adrenaline rush, an almost out of body experience. Seriously, nobody wants to stand near next to me anymore when one of our horses runs for fear of being attacked by my rolled up program.

Top Six Excuses Horse Racing Partnerships use when a Horse does not Win

Posted by Billy Koch on May 8, 2015 10:50:00 AM

If you own a racehorse on your own or inside horse racing partnerships (want to know the pros and cons of each?) you will not win every race. I know that may be shocking to some of you but, unfortunately, it’s the truth. If you win at a 15-20% clip, you are doing just fine. However, one of the most entertaining (for lack of a better term) parts of losing a race is listening to either your trainer or the managing partner of the horse racing partnership try and explain to you why your horse didn’t win. Listed below are the top six excuses for racehorses which didn't win. In addition, we’ve provided a little “truth” to each excuse.

Top Five Mistakes Horse Owners Make in Thoroughbred Racing

Posted by Billy Koch on May 1, 2015 2:27:00 PM

 It’s hard.

While we "in the business" always maintain that our horses are not pets, these equine athletes do become like family and for the most part (deep sigh) we love them unconditionally.

Unfortunately, that is one of the problems horse owners deal with once they enter into the landscape of the Sport of Kings or own a share in a horse racing partnership.

Listed below are the top five mistakes horse owners make in thoroughbred racing.
